I'm in Central Maui, and we didn't see too much wind or rain. Actually, right now we are getting the most rain we've had (in the area where I live), now that the storm is receding and dissipating! I know that a few places, especially the eastern end of the island (Hana), had a lot more rain, but I haven't heard of any area here being heavily affected. West Maui (Lahaina) had the worst problems, due to wildfires that were driven by the winds. I think 27 structures and more than 2000 acres were burned. The Big Island got the most rain, up to 20 inches in some areas.

Sadly, there are not many rail preservation efforts going on any more. However, a group of investors in Lahaina have gotten together and bought the Sugar Cane Train (LK&P) to keep it from being scrapped. They ran a few short diesel-powered trips around Christmas, but I just heard a rumor last night that they have gotten the two steam locomotives back into running order. It will take a huge investment (some have estimated $6M) to get the track and the railroad in general back into shape again. I hope they can do it.
