Chris, et al,
We looked for the proper converted oil headlight but the only available example was deemed to fragile to make the trip. The headlight we are using is an authentic replica of a "wabash" headlight used by the D&RG. We are not changing the lead truck wheels or the crosshead guides or the window frames.
What we are doing is putting together a train similar to those run on the "Chili Line" in the teens. The goal is to show off the recently restored Jackson & Sharp D&RG coach 292, RPO #54 restored by the "Friends", the #315 as it looked when first acquired by the Rio Grande, and create the feel of those days on the D&RG.
The trip on the 24th of September is a fund raiser to help cover the cost of building passenger trucks for the three passenger cars that will make up the historic fleet that will run with the #168 when completed.
The train will be limited to 40 passengers. the cost is $325. There will be multiple unique photo opportunities for those lucky enough to secure a ticket.
