Just to be mildly didactic, it's a hydraulic excavator on the right.
But the main point of posting a discussion point is this: While it's faster and easier and lower maintenance in normal times to drop a 10' steel culvert in and fill over it, this spot seems prime for a steel piling trestle. But that's more $$$ I suspect.
And another observation/question related to D&S rights on the ROW. I understand the nature of the whole branch is that it is precisely that, a right-of-way, and that ownership is someone else's. But wouldn't it be nice if the RR could just pull rock from that wash gully to widen it and ease the downhill run, and pull the excess into fill for the above mentioned culvert and fill... I suspect they've got the challenge of locating enough fill material and hauling it.
