I hear you. We just use it to fill cracks, nothing structural, and, better minds than mine decide what materials to use.
I'll get them a can, and let them read the label.
I'm very mechanically inclined, but all things wood scare me. It's a running joke around here that I never leave my corner of the woodshop, because there's nothing at the other end but "splinters and death".
