There has been a problem with the search engine ever since the site was migrated to a new server a couple of years ago — it doesn't like numbers or special characters, and hangs up if either of these are included in the search string.  I used to be able to find one of my older posts by entering the filename of a photo posted there – such as 120208-544.jpg for photo #544 taken on 02/08/2012, but now I have to try to remember some text on the post (such as 'Where's Waldo', which eventually leads to [ngdiscussion.net]).  It's a real pain, especially for an old Curmudgeon like me with a rapidly fading memory.

If you do a search on "search" you might find one or two of the work-arounds that have been suggested by others; otherwise you'll have to come up with something other than engine numbers to search on.
