I can't speak for anybody else but we cast them. The nicely shaped Baldwin doors really need to be cast. Some of the other styles can as easily be fabricated. Our current project has a cast door and a fabricated ring. But the rings are such that basically you cannot tell the difference. Then on the #278 there was a very thick iron casting on the inside of the door to protect it from cinder cutting. The center bolt was pretty much eaten away from the cutting. I imagine they would of been replacing a lot of doors without this item.
