I have to wonder also if it is to help break up the airstream under the fuselage. I remember that a modification was added to the A 26 Invaders because the first time used in a bombing run the bombs released but the air flow kept them from falling and instead rattled loose in the bomb bay much to the crews horror. They added a steel plate that extended in front to break up the air steam and allow the crews to bomb at speed. So I wonder if the landing gear do the same thing to help the dispersants to fall rather than fly.
