I live a block from the yard in Chama, by the school. I go out at about 3am to check something in the back of the Suburban, This, in itself, is quite a sight. 350lbs, in my underwear (it's 3am), barefoot, on crutches. I open up the tailgate, check something (whole other story), and I notice in the glow of the interior light that there's trash at my feet.

I think, how the heck could this have fallen out of the truck. Then I hear the sound of contented munching. By the front passenger door, a black bear is eating chicken remains out of my garbage can. Between me and the house. In my underwear. Barefoot. On crutches...

Luckily, he was happy with the chicken. He couldn't have paid me less of a damn, 10 feet away. I went -very- quietly back in the house.
