completely off topic but back in '79 I was driving to a little park to meet some friends and hang out for the evening when some deer ran across the road in front of the car. I said "Look, Deer!" and my girlfriend of the time[1] lifted her head off my shoulder and asked "At what?"
To put it slightly on-topic, we had crossed the grade of the St Louis, Des Moines & Northern RR about 4-5 miles back. (built 1882, std gauged ca 1885, purchased by St. Paul line in the 1890's) on a section abnd by MILW Road in 1965. And yes, I knew about said line and it's history at the time.

[1] One thing in which I take inordinate pride is that that once young lady and I remain good friends all these years after the short time we were lovers. Same is true for a couple of other ladies, including my ex-wife. But my record is not perfect in this regard, alas, one break-up (1977) was bitter and I still regret it.
