Did they even run with the headlight on in that era? Otto Perry photos don't show Headlights burning in Daytime over a quick review either. A good way to spot a photofraud, I guess.
EDIT: On looking again at the pictures that William posted, does the Headlight even have a Reflector in it?
Headlights on in daytime was a Diesel/Railcar thing, no smoke signals to be seen.
Only at the last of steam did our Enginedrivers run with the Headlight on during the day and that was probably because they were used to running Diesels with the Headlight on all the time, got into the habit of turning it on.
