Matt, you've made my day! Thank you! When you first posted the pictures of the wreck I was hoping that this location would show up! The photograph with the string of boxcars is the "station" of Posta. I have looked for a picture of this place for decades! There have been pictures on calendars and such claiming Posta as the location but they were wrong! Yes, they were near Posta but they were not
at Posta!
Posta had a 13 car capacity and was last listed in Time Table #5, October 1, 1965. Six and a half months later in Time Table #6, May 15, 1966, Posta and other "stations" on the Farmington Branch were not listed.
Posta is located 8.3 miles south of Carbon Junction and 2 miles north of the wreck location along CR 215. I’ve always wondered why so few photographers ventured down to this area. The shots with the motorcar with the cattle guard is the same guard seen in the distance in the shot from the first set of photos that you posted (on the gondola thread). These motorcar shots were taken at the crossing of CR 215 looking north. Using Google Street Maps the location would be CR 215 and N Hylander Rd which is built on the grade. The apple trees are still there.
Thanks again Matt! Absolutely fantastic!
