Yes, Forrest Crossen did state there was no wye and disputed a
personal interview he printed of turning engine(s) on the Sunset wye
in his book. No evidence of a wye track layout shows in early photos.
Actually, a track design appears later in photos with the same function.
Check the photo on page123 in his book which shows part of a distorted
wye in place near the Sunset station (it is within the wye), again part of it
with station photo on page 191 that used the turn to Eldora and a BETTER
view from higher up on page 194 that does show most of it, including the
station within the wye. And the BEST view of it on page 208 taken by
McClure overlooking Sunset from another direction.
Maybe not a true geometric RR wye, but I think the same function a
railroad "wye" provides for turning an engine was there and appears
related to extending the line to Eldora. There were several owners &
operators of the RR line to and thru Sunset.
