What really amazes me (also frustrates) is how the discussion about green boilers has been going on at least 48 years that I know of and perhaps longer than that. Yet, in doing the research on the K-36 and K-28 books I am doing for White River, I found a ton of history that has never been published or posted anywhere. There is so much about these locomotives that is much more important and interesting than green paint. The negativity and nastiness around the topic is depressing.
Years ago, my wife and I hosted a steak dinner for Bob Richardson and some other well known narrow gauge devotees. My wife at one point asked Bob "Is there anyone in this hobby normal?" Bob laughed and then told her if they were normal they would be at the bowling alley.
