The R.C. Climax was the Elk river coal and lumber co. #3. It was built in 1928, (I think it's c/n # was 1698) as a standard gauge locomotive. Unfortunatly when this engine first arrived in Felton, its was in really rough shape even it's boiler was not repairable. I helped take the original boiler off this climax about twenty years ago. The idea at that time was to have a new boiler built by the Dixon boiler works. In the interm time the owner of Dixion and the founder of Roaring Camp both passed away and along with them went the hand shake deal that was to build the new boiler. Somehow even the original boiler disappeared. The good news is about three years ago R.C. recieved a Climax boiler that is rebuildable from the S.V.Ry. in Baker, OR. This engine is still a long way off from ever seeing steam and will still cost alot of money. Tom Shreve can fill in the rest.
