A significant part of California Western's problem was that it lost the freight business that paid the ongoing fixec charges. The connecting line was closed by an embargo so they could not ship freight. And also I have heard that the lumber mill in Ft. Bragg is closed. No freight business equals no money to pay the taxes, office costs, etc.
