Depends on what you mean-um by "always", Kemo Sabé -

SFAIK it's not an Apache artifact, and IIRC it wasn't installed by the D&RG when the RR first arrived in Chama late in 1880.
It looks like it's almost as old as Roger – maybe from the Nineties, or even the Turn of the Century – but I could be wrong.
