I moved to Colorado in 1969. I immediately feel in love with the mountains and spent many weekends hiking and backpacking. One of my favorite trips (because it was close to where I worked) was to bike and hike into Waterton Canyon for fishing. This is the location where the DSP&P headed into the foothills and west towards Como. Construction of the Strontia Springs reservoir pretty well ruined this access. But I also reached the North Fork of the South Platte over dirt roads and trails from Conifer and Bailey. You could readily get to the old DSP&P grade and good fishing spots from these front range locations. Finding and following old narrow gauge routes through the hills for many years made me fall in love even more with Colorado. It is amazing how many of those ROWs are still visible if you know where to look.
