The Andean nations had and still have some really spectacular mountain railroads. We Americans tend to think of the Rockies as the ultimate, but the Andes are truly amazing. One nice side benefit of Ecuador is their use of U.S. currency. Whatever American tourists have in their pockets when they leave the U.S. is good in Ecuador – no exchange required. I wasn't aware of this railroad when I visited. Now I see that I might have to go back.
