Greg that was my question, back then they had a lot of cheap labor and I bet they had a bunch of workers shovel out the tail track. Other option would have been to run a loco up in reverse and have it plow the leg of the switch back? One of those things that you had to have been there to believe it! Most interesting stuff eh.
