Croncrete ties have a couple of drawbacks. The BNSF (Big Noisy Slow Freight) put concrete ties on the curve at Folsom, N.M. and then came back and replaced them with wood because the gauge couldn't be adjusted as the outside rail wore with concrete ties. Concrete is still popular in spite of concrete ties turning to gravel in a derailment. The BNSF just lengthened Jeff siding across from my house. The main and the old part of the siding have wood ties but the new extension has concrete ties! JP
