Knew some Scenic employees that either bought stock or got some as a bonus from the Company. In the early 1970's Scenic had big time dreams and plans for the C&TS......with no $$$ to pay for any of it. CO and NM took a "hands off" stance and told Scenic "we bought it, we own it, you can fund its development".
It never paid a dime, by the late 70's its value was a piece of railroad paper with your name on it that you could hang on the wall.
I recall that eventually some company acquired Scenic Rys to assume their debt and take a tax write off.
Along the same, but more successful lines, one can buy stock in the Strasburg RR on occasion (when shares come available). I don't think they've ever paid a dividend either. All the profit goes back into the property.
