This Is One Well Traveled Piece Of Narrow Guage Equipment!

I have long been fascinated with the ability of certain pieces of narrow gauge rolling stock to both survive long after their intended life and also to travel far and wide to various different narrow gauge railroads.

Here is one such piece.

This ancient "coffin-style" tank car was first built for use on the Nevada-California-Oregon Ry on their narrow gauge line running from Reno, Nevada to Lakeview, Oregon. When she was eventually retired by the NCO she was eventually sold to the West Side Lumber Co. of Tuolumne, California. There she operated in logging service for several more decades.

She was caught in July 1958 by Glenn Beier at West Side's Camp 45 in the first photo.

After the West Side shut down, she was sold in the fall of October 1963 to the newly formed Roaring Camp & Big Trees Narrow Gauge Railroad at Felton, California. She continued in limited service there until the mid-2000's when she was traded to the Sumpter Valley Ry at McEwen, Oregon. It was there that she was completely rebuilt by the Western Railroad Preservation Society and put back into service once again.

This simple tank car is well over 100 years old and still going strong. Sure she is well-traveled, but she still survives and can put in a days service when called upon.
