The WRPS restoration crew does museum quality work. When the coffin tank car arrived at SVRR it was truly a basket case. All of the wood was rotted beyond salvage and the tank was rusted out in several places. Mike Roberts and crew carefully measured everything as they were dismantling it and had all new parts manufactured to the original dimensions, even nails and bolts. The rusted parts of the tank were cut out, and new pieces were formed to the same contour and welded in place. The welds were smoothed off, and are not visible. We did not have a spare steam pump available but they managed to find and restore one that nearly matches the one the West Side used.
The WRPS crew are now restoring WSL Co. short Caboose #6. They also have three WSL flat cars to restore, but their next project will be to build a replica of SVRy tank car #99 for the railroad. A flat car and tank for this project are on site but, as usual, the wooden parts will have to be replaced.
