Hi again -
Several of us had ridden the third of C&TS 'Three Great Events' – a moonlight dinner train to Osier on the evening of October 21st
:
. . . so when the Rattler arrived we had been there enjoying our 'Succulent Sunset Steak Dinners' not too much more than 12 hours previously
:
I don't remember whether we stayed in Osier long enough to have lunch there
; probably not, as there was a bit of a time crunch that day, so we probably ate on board the "chase" train as it moved along to the next run-by location, Phantom Curve
:
The above shot is the only one out of a few hundred of my older photos that made it into Tom Gildersleeve & Nils Huxtable's excellent full-color pictorial volume,
'Narrow Gauge . . . then and now', which SFAIK is available from either of the above gentlemen and from The Friends bookstore.
Highly recommended!!
Our next stop was the east portal of Mud Tunnel, apparently much drier in 1972 than it was last week
:
There were fewer trees crowding the tracks at Toltec Siding back then, and a lonely telegraphone pole can be seen still standing near the center of this shot
