Hi Paul,

From up on the hill, the only good shots (in my view) are the long-telephoto, "comin-at-ya" shot way to the left, which is good if the smoke is blowing the right way, and the shot that I posted of the train going away up on the hill. The curve itself is a bust, because too many people from the charter are too close to the tracks, and too many chasers/freeloaders are on the upper part of the curve, some of whom brazenly don't seem to care if they spoil the shots of the people who paid for the train. In the case of this particular run-by, none of those people made any difference, the curve itself was a smoke-out from above. I liked the going away shot that I posted best. The "comin'-at-ya" wasn't a total bust, but the smoke was blowing horizontally to the east and the shot wasn't pretty.

A couple of years ago, I bagged one at the same location that I liked a lot better. "Comin-at-ya"

With regard to the freeloaders, I generally couldn't care less about what they do or what kind of photos they get, just as long as they exhibit some courtesy in staying out of the shooting lanes of the people who paid for the train. In this case, some of them had basically no courtesy at all. On the Sunday before the trip, I was walking around the yard at Antonito and had a guy with a dog start asking me questions about the 455 and 315. He was clearly trying to get details on the charter schedule. He asked what the charter cost was and when I told him the price, he said: "It's not worth it., I'd rather chase it." So, there ya go. sad smiley
