I always thought they kept a fleet of them around for when they needed extra coaches. An example was in 1993 when I did a Friends Work Session, that also was timed to have a Moonlight Dinner train to Osier. We rode that trip and it was all box car coaches. I didn't take my video cause I figured it would be too dark. Of course then we do a photo runby at Lobato with the regular train passing us, then a runby at Coxo. At least I shot a few slides, where ever they are. In 1971 I rode the train twice that year, and it was better than standing up all day. The last time I had ridden the line was in 1956 and of course I didn't remember it at all. So, it was an adventure, even with those funky looking coaches. They were made out of desperation when no NG coaches were available to work with. All stayed with the D&RGW for their Durango operation.

PS Watching some 15 year old footage of a cab ride in CPR 4-6-2 1293 on the Ohio Central reminds me to "Get stuff while you can" You never know what the future will bring. Ohio Central is no more and no more steam trips, though the engines are now in a museum of sorts.
