I have been following the responses with some interest and have a few observations.
1. Most of us seem to be smitten with the one we saw first (you never forget or quite get over your first love, be it girlfriend or railroad)
2. Railroads that seem improbable or heroic score high ( the DSP&P, RGS, SR, WP&YR, C&C all fall in this category)
3. Railroads that were a vital part of a larger transportation system (WP&YR and D&RGW fall in this category)
I am pleased to see a larger than I expected number of folks who are not old curmudgeons responding to this survey. It leads me to believe that the narrow gauge will survive for another generation.
The RGS is my favorite for all three of the above reasons, followed by the C&TS in particular and the D&RGW in general. As the song lyric goes " If you can't be with the one you love, love the one your with".
JP and I went and explored the Uintah many years ago and it is the only RR I know about that was more believable before I saw it than after. I would never have thought you could do that with a railroad.
