Re: Double header on the C&T?

Not necessarily---It could be headed to Chama for other reasons, like a special train, charter, or to doublehead on a busy day! When I was there in 2014 it was on the point of a Saturday Doubleheader which included 5 extra flat cars behind 487. At Cumbres they swapped and 463 took the train to Antonito along with the flats. They do like to keep it on the east end cause it can handle just about any passenger train from Antonito. I think they swap engines so that 463 can return to Antonito most of the time, but not sure about that. My brother rode last year and had 463 out of Antonito, but the second part of his trip was one of the 36's. Now that I think about it I am not sure if he went back to Antonito or through to Chama. I want to say he went to Chama. The neat thing about the C&TS is all the cool possibilities of different engines, doubleheaders and so forth. An early bird watching the engines being hostled at Chama could find out easily enough when they are running a doubleheader.
