Looking at this thread I am reminding myself that the charters I was involved with years ago did not get enough patrons until the last minute. You still have what 3 months before these trips? If its 80% sold now, then surely you will reach at least 90% by September. That would be good profit, yes???
I can see why some folks would do Monday cause its Under $300.00 and gives them a day out with the 463 on a photo train. Then they can walk away, and maybe get a few shots over the weekend. I know back in the early 2000's when I did charters on the Ohio Central they had single day tickets, and I usually did one day only. I did do a two-day deal, and remember getting leg cramps from all the standing around between runbys. At some spots they would do way too many runbys where you never got back on the train for over an hour or more. As someone said the older crowd are the ones who really want to do these things, and they are generally the ones that have the cash to fork over, not to mention the free time to travel. What is really needed is an injection of new younger photographers that can keep things going in the future. There are a lot of photographers out there, but few who are willing to risk taking on the job of running these things, let alone taking the effort just to go as a patron. I hope for the future of the industry, and the charters, more younger guys can get interested to keep things alive for a long time. Otherwise the freight charters will go the way of wall-mounted telephones.
