Rayonier 120's Powell is owned by Tom Irion who loaned to the Dan Ranger many years ago. Dan had it on many engines including Anaka on the LK&P in Hawaii.
When Dan came to Chama, so did the whistle. We put it on 489, where it lived for many years.
The D&RGW had a Powell with a built in valve that was seen and heard on 487 in the 1960's. It was also on 489 when it ran in Salida in the mid-1950's. As 487 had a great sounding D&RGW 5-chime, we did a semi-historical thing and put the Powell on 489.
For a while, I was "Keeper Of The Powell" when Dan moved back to CA to work for Roaring Camp. It stayed on 489 until I left in 1998. I took it with me to Texas where it rode around on top of 2248 for a while. When I went back to Chama in 2001, I put the Powell back on 489. 489 went down for its 1472 that fall, and I gave it back to Dan. When we got 18 running in Alamosa, we borrowed it for a summer, then gave it back to Dan. Since Dan's passing, I wonder what became of it.
