Our op. mgr./ car man Jim Grigsby and I discussed scenarios on this. Likely whatever replaces it will be properly engineered which this wasn't though it has lasted through heavy snows for 20-30 years. It probably can't be made steeper or snow coming off of the car shop itself would pile up on it plus it would create a clearance problem to drop the low side lower still. We assume a new structure would get it's own supporting wall attached to the car shop wall and joists would be truss joists which we see is the norm on a lot of new construction these days. The last I heard our president Jon Franklin is getting a quote from a contractor. The car shop wall is also damaged as the collapse broke some of the wall studs where the roof was tagged on. Thankfully the roof trusses on the car shop itself held. We hope that damage to the caboose is minimal. The other end of the collapsed area came down on our DRGW outfit car. So far as I know it was not damaged.
