The Ramsdells purchased WW&F #9 because they wanted to save and preserve a part of Maine history. WW&F #9 was built by the Portland Company in 1891 as Sandy River #5. Then became Sandy River & Rangeley Lakes #6, then Kennebec Central #4, and last WW&F Ry #9. It is the only surviving engine from those railroads and is under steam once more on home rails at the WW&F Ry museum in Alna, ME and is the only Portland Company engine in operation.
