This is great stuff and I appreciate this information although there is one thing I'd like to add. There are 5 crossing of the Animas. Durango is on the east side of the Animas, Farmington is on the west side of the Animas... Can't do that with 4 Animas bridge crossings! The missing bridge is located between the bridge Rich shot above and the bridge south of Cedar Hill... The abutments can be seen from an overlook. The final bridge at this location had 5 open deck steel spans. Long like the long, low trestle just south of Silverton, but steel like the new 3 span over the Piedra, only longer and lower. 3 spans of one height and 2 spans that were a little lower in height. I am not sure of the approaches, or even if there were any. (Reminds me of the BNSF bridge on I76 near the Greeley cutoff...) The are very few pictures of this bridge although Ernie Robart, who took and possesses the Holy Grail of last days photos, has some! Sorry, I don't have the MP of this bridge without looking it up as I'm downsizing the memory gigabytes in my head, but I would really like to know the history of this bridge!
