"I lost a hero today!"
The passing of a Denver & Rio Grande Western Narrow Gauge (D&RGW) legend and one of my biggest heroes. My great uncle Carl Jack took his last ride yesterday 3/21/2017, just short of seeing his beloved locomotive 476 returning to service. He imprinted my life early allowing me into the engines cab in Silverton and telling me many of stories of times he had railroading. Well liked among the D&RGW crews, remembered by early Durango &Silverton and Cumbres & Toltec crews he would interact with when visiting either railroads. But railroad came after being in the US Air Force stationed in Alaska during Korean War before starting on the D&RGW in 1952. He will truly be missed!
