Hi,
Remember when you were being taught arithmetic and were told that 0 was worthless and just a place holder?
Do you recall being taught that 00001 was the same as 1 since preceding zeros were worthless? Our teacher always seemed to say that zeros were worthless dropping the "preceding".
I recall someone in our level 3 (advanced) arithmetic class mentioned that a zero was not worthless. Sent the teacher into fits. The fellow said he could prove that zeros were not worthless.
He went to the chalk board (remember them) and sketched out a check and wrote it for a dollar $1.00. He repeated the same thing and wrote the check for $1,000.00 and repeated the teacher's statement that zero's were worthless so both check values were the same. He was sent to the principle's office.
A week later, he told a couple of us that the principle could not help himself from a belly laugh and then was told that he was never to challenge a teacher in school again.
