Hi Russ,
Over the years, the MWRC (Mount Washington Railway Company) has painted their equipment in a number of "interesting" ways. For many years, the steam locomotives were black, with orange and green trim on the cab and tender. Then, in the last 15 years or so, they seemed to migrate at least some of them to an predominantly black scheme with gold lettering on the cab and tender, that was pretty classy, actually. The last change appeared on the 2 (visible in my photo) just before the end of regular steam, and featured a black loco with red and yellow trim on cab and tender. That was pretty also (better than orange and green), but alas, it was a one-off thing. Today, I don't know what the railroad is doing for paint schemes on the steam engines. Photos that I saw of #9 last summer looked like they used up several nearly empty cans of paint. It was a patchwork that didn't even carry the railroad name. It didn't give me a warm, cozy feeling about the long-term prospects for continued steam operations.
The coaches, on the other hand, have been painted bright colors for a couple of decades. When the railroad began building diesel hydraulic locomotives in 2008, they went with similar bright color schemes. The railroad now has at least 6 diesels, and each is a different color. The first was green, followed by black, red, yellow and white. I have not seen the most recent addition.
