The brakes on the prototype were inside truck mounted. That detail was not included in the kits, so brake shoes were cobbled in while assembling the trucks. The Don Winter kit instructions state he only had one photo of the prototype and the folio sheet to work from when designing the model. After study of the photos in Robert Grandt's D&RGW MOW book covering A to Z and finding the relevant information in the Western Wheeled Scrapper catalog, the wood parts in the kits for the body were discarded in favor of styrene as I thought I could build more accurate dump bodies that way. Which then led to questions on the air system plumbing. Had I been smart and just built the kits as is when I got them ago they would have been in service on the layout years ago...
