Dan and his associates have expressed interest in Eureka-Nevada Railway No 12, in the collection of NSRM-BC...a 1896 Baldwin 2-8-0, built as Florence and Cripple Creek No 10, Independence, to Uintah Ry No 12, in 1917, to E-N in 1937. In the D&RGW system she would be a C-18.
The locomotive was reboilered in 1924 by the Uintah, using a new Baldwin built boiler. A quick inspection via wash out plugs shows the boiler to be clean and in apparently good shape. Dan has already reworked the injectors, and the air pump has been removed and inspected and is in very good condition.
Before work can commence we need to move the locomotive to the shop area, and have the boiler lagging removed (contains vitamin A). We are currently working on a plan to do that, and to move the three narrow gauge car bodies to a better storage location, and do some stabilization. One of those car bodies is a 1876 Billmeyer and Small car that Dan copied to build Elsa...
The loco and cars have been displayed outside in various places in southern Nevada since the very early 1950's... and were stored outside in northern Nevada for at least 10 years before that... We are lucky that Nevada is dry, and therefore a tolerable place for outside storage. Plans for a new museum complex include a indoor home for the cars and No 12.
