We actually have a lot of tourists who come to see the True Grit sites - several families every day in the summer and fall. We have handouts for them, as well as small interpretive signs around town describing the scenes and a guided tour every Friday during the season. Amazing - the film was made in the summer of 1968 (released in 1969) and it's still wildly popular. All the town scenes were filmed in Ridgway (except for the courthouse interiors, which were filmed at the courthouse in Ouray, 10 miles up the road), and many of the out of town scenes were filmed nearby, including the ranch at opening and closing, the shootout in the meadow and the snake pit in the mine.
