I don't know what the photographer was standing on, but a doubt it was the rotary. One doesn't ram into snow with a rotary, you ease into and power through it. Otherwise, the blade chokes up and stalls. These guys took a run at a hard packed drift and we see the result. I'm guessing a big wedge plow like the one on lead engine of the plow train behind them is one the derailed engine and is just out of the bottom of the pic.
