That's the back side of the Tanglefoot Curve/Cumbres Loop. A deep snowdrift forms back there. At one time there was a snowshed on this curve. I bet these guys wish it was still there.
I remember plowing that drift with the OY. It was one of the last tough drifts to tackle going east. The sharp curve and hard snow was a tough spot.
That shows you what happens when you take a hard run at a hard packed snowdrift. It's hard to tell from this pic if this was the lead (plow) engine or not.
Winter railroading on the Narrow Gauge was not for the feint of heart....
Those were tough old birds who did this. They had more guts that I could ever come up with. I salute them.
