For several years, my whole perspective of the Friends was from the Chama south yard camera. 15 guys fixing two or three cars a summer. After being injured at work, and moving to Chama to volunteer full time, I got a new appreciation for the size and scope of the Friends operation and contribution. 2500 members, with 450 summer work session volunteers working along the entire 64 mile route. We do everything from the gardening and painting to full rolling stock restorations. This is -not- a camera club. We need volunteers, and have jobs for -every- skill level, from riding mowers to writing grants. Even if you only come to watch for a day, that might prime you for a week or two in the next year. The one resounding fact about this organization, is that -everyone- wants to be here. It is truly fun, rewarding, and historic.
There's also something truly cathartic about dodging steam locomotives all day...

We also need volunteers to just sit in our information shop on Main Street, and also Docents, that get to ride the train every day. There -is- a little work involved. :-)
Walk the walk.
This is what I do, by the way. Wheel & Tie Car sills.
