I remember the one that did the swan dive off Cascade Creek. There was one that expired next to the track at the 2nd highway crossing going out of Chama. The owner naturally claimed that we hit it. The state livestock commissioner sent an inspector up to investigate. He said that while it might be possible the animal was hit by the train, the cause of death was more likely caused by the .45 cal slug in its head. We used to have a couple of heads of livestock croak along the RR every year. It was certainly a delight for our passengers, especially after they ripened a bit in the sun. Yummy stuff...
