Up the hill we go through the Narrows.
Lobato was bit interesting. Back in the old days of wooden car I guess the engine crews just closed their throttles as they came over the top at Lobato and everything drifted to a stop where the helper was cut off. Well, George eased off, and Marvin kept pushing. Finally with the bridge looming up ahead, George took a big set on the train and stopped with 487's nose out on the bridge. I guess Marvin and Dale didn't know about the "cutting the helper off thing". By not running any doubleheaders that previous year they had not experienced this maneuver. Here we are stopped at Lobato...
Onward past the second road crossing....
Now... the brakeman is supposed to be back on the rear car, (which in this case was an empty 6500 flat). I'm guessing that the other brakeman was on the rear, because I spent the rest of the trip trying not to foam too much in the open car 2 cars back from the head end. Hear we are at MP 337.
We made a quick stop at the Kink at MP 336 before tiptoe-ing our way across.
