Another project was the building of caboose 0306. This was a project set up by several local investors, a some of which worked for the C&TS. The idea was to take boxcar 3060 (which was privately owned) and convert it into a caboose, and outfit the car out as a luxury parlor car. The car was to be chartered on the rear of regular trains. Here 0306 is in the process of its transformation.
A few days later....
Kyle also decided that new paint was in order for the locomotives. 487 had been touched up with new aluminum paint on the smokebox and trim, but kept her somewhat faded black paint. I got put to work painting 488 and 489. I had made new stencils for the tender side lettering over the winter Here we have the stencils up while Russ Fischer in the distance puts aluminum paint on the front tender step, Laco Martinez touches up the rear headlight and Steve Carr mixes up aluminum paint for the lettering.
Here we see Steve Carr using my Badger Airbrush and compressor (normally used for my model railroad projects) to apply the aluminum paint for the tender.
Stenciling done...
