G'Daye, Grant -
The
Rio Grande hadn't run a rotary for several years by the time 1968 rolled around. Winter operations over Cumbres had ended in 1964 after the Oriental Refinery in Alamosa shut down, and IIRC not every winter prior to that was severe enough to require the rotary to clear the line – most years the Jordan spreader and flanger were sufficient.
OTOH - as noted above - the C&TS did run the rotary in 1993, so 2018 could be a combo
25th Anniversary for the C&TS Rotary just before Opening Day, and
50th Anniversary of the Last D&RGW Freights during the usually quiet time in late August.

p.s. Now we all have the problem of deciding how to divide limited funds and/or time between the "RGS" in 2017 and two different possibilities in 2018. Like they say in the Old Country, "You Pays Your Money, And You Takes Your Chances." At least juggling all these potentials should keep JBWX, Johnny Coal, Jokin' Oaks and John Bush out of mischief for a few weeks
