The Durango Railroad Historical Socity ( DRHS) had a banner year in 2016. We finished restoring four cars this summer.
First up was Double Deck Stock Car D&RGW 5564D.
She got a new double layer roof with 4 heavy coats of paint, numerous side boards and a new top sill beam, and some new flooring, new roof walk boards, blocks and bracingly, missing hardware replaced, and all dressed out with primmer and two coats of paint.
Next up was Stock Car D&RGW 5627.
She also got a new double layer roof with 4 heavy coats of paint, new roof walk boards, blocks and bracingly, numerous side boards and two new top sill beams, and all new flooring, all missing hardware replaced, and all dressed out with primmer and two coats of paint.
We finished up restoration of Water Service Car D&RGW 04432 (Bunk Car)
She got a new double layer T&G roof, new facias, new roll roofing, re-built smoke jack (as per 1940) Windows re-built, new window sills for the sliding in the wall pocket windows and new Doors re-built, new flooring in doorways with new sills, re-stained and sealed the hardwood floors and 3 coats of new paint inside. 3 coats of new paint over boiled linseed primer on the exterior. 04432 will be used as a bunk car for work crews in Silverton during work sessions, relieving the chronic shortage of rooms in Silverton during the summer work season.
D&RGW FLANGER OT was next.
Restored to its 1940 re-built condition. Removed several added items, and replace several missing parts. Replaced the weight box floor, missing hardware, new top deck, and two coats of new paint.
Re-constructed the New-Old Silverton Northern Oil Shed
Not quite finished before the snows came. All new modern construction. Same size, shape, location of the original. Will be finished with the new rusting corrugated tin to look like the original.
And of course, WE RAN 315 numerous times this year out of Silverton on the D&S for railfest, and the C&T for private excursions plus The Rendezvous, after a three year hiatus.
