When Uncle Bob visited the Moscow, Camden & St. Augustine Railroad in Camden, TX, he started taking pictures of the usual collection of nifty old junk that east Texas logging operation were known to collect. Out of the office came Mr.Carter, the owner of the WT Carter Lumber Company the owned the whole outfit bellowing "THERE WILL BE NO MORE PITCHA'S TAKEN UNTIL I GET MAH BOOK". Despite an attempt at explanation by Bob, Mr. Carter was adamant.
The story goes that a few years earlier Lucius Beebe was through there gathering material for his by Mixed Train Daily. The MC&StA ran a special train for him on the premise that Mr Carter would get a copy of said book. that never happened, Carter was mad and took it out on Bob.
Bob went back and reported his amusing story to his boss at Seiberling Tire. His boss got furious. WT Carter was a customer of them and he had made some special deal for log truck tires for him. He then got Mr Carter on the phone ant tore him a new one while Bob watched in great amusement.
So, that's where the private in joke came about. To this day if Everett shows up where I'm working (the latest being last summer in Strasburg), I always greet him with "Hey You!! There will be no mo' pitchas taken here until I get mah book!"
there ya go...........
