Thanks!
I have a sailor's "Donald Duck" cap from the USS Oklahoma, from the vet himself (the grandfather of a girl I was dating, he gave it to me as nobody in the family cared and he said it didn't matter if I stopped dating her, that he knew I'd care for it. Oddly, she dumped me a week later and I heard that her grandfather was more ticked than I was about that). He was AWOL that morning, still drunk from a roudy Saturday night before, and was literally staggering to the gate with his friends knowing they'd all get Captain's mast for that, when they saw the planes coming in and heard the explosions. His cap was on him at the time.
I should break it out from the sealed container it's been in all these years. I haven't even seen the thing in over 15 years, now that I think back on it, as I sealed it airtight with a M-1 helmet that was worn in the first wave at Normandy (haven't seen that in the same timeframe, either).
