While running the QJ 2-10-2s on the Iowa Interstate Railroad, they had at that time a hotbox detector going east from Iowa City. It wasn't the heat from the firebox but if hot oil or steam would drop on the detector it would fail the roll by and we would be required to stop. Also these QJs the flange less center drivers, so it would always be one axle short when reporting.
Hated going over the detectors.

I believe the Georgetown Loop has a automatic flange oiler closer to Silver Plum I think
